Which banks reimburse ATM fees charged by other banks when you use their ATMs? I've read that some basically make it...

Banks and ATM Fees

First of all, sorry this is late. I've been on vacation and taking care of family stuff.

The unfortunate truth is that most banks do not reimburse ATM fees. Even if your own bank does not charge you a fee for using another bank's ATM, the other bank's fees are usually your responsibility.

TD Banknorth is an exception to the rule. Compass Bank is another, as is First Independence Bank.

If there are others that offer true freedom from ATM fees, I haven't found them. There could be some local branches that offer absolutely no ATM fees. Usually there is a catch: either it has to be your own bank's ATM, or your bank won't cover fees charged by other banks.

This is great; thanks Miranda. ETrade has a full fee-reimbursement option with some of its checking accounts, but you have to have a $5000 minimum in the account. The 3 you've mentioned are attractive alternatives.

Glad it was helpful. That's interesting about ETrade. I'm noticing that these brokers are also getting into the regular banking game. But, as you point out, the minimums can get hefty.

I work for First Command Financial Services, but I'm also a customer. They are the fairest bank I've ever worked with (Yes, I know that sounds biased, but you may want to check it out). They reimburse ATM fees. There online bill pay is top tier and free. Here is a comparison chart with the specifics:

For those who qualify, I've never found a better bank than USAA. I don't qualify unfortunately, but they don't charge ATM fees, they reimburse from other ATMs, and they have so much more! I wish I qualified! :( Unfortunately, you've pretty much got to be in the military or a recent vet in order to qualify.

Banner Bank in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon now offers no ATM surchages and reimbursement for other banks surcharges.

USAA and Navy Federal both reimburse you up to 15 dollars I think. Catch is you have to be in the Military or immediate family such as spouse or child to get in. Although I have not checked yet to see if you could possibly get parents and siblings in...I doubt it though. I will try and get back to you on that.
